PRATYAHARA with Susan Turtletaub
6:30 - 8:30 pm ~
Sep 26, Oct 24, Dec 12

In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, Yoga is defined as:
“Yoga is the return of the mind to its original silence” (1.2)
What Patanjali suggests is that this is a state of equanimity is already present but for most of us, it is obscured by our busy, untrained minds.
The practice of yoga is centered on finding a part of ourselves that is not in fluctuation, a part of us that is interconnected with everything.
Yoga teaches us that when we are connected and centered within ourselves we come into our true nature, which is vast, vibrant, potent and alive.

We cultivate this connection by:
·   Sensing and feeling into the physical body
·   Training the mind to remain seated in the part of itself that is not in fluctuation
·   Training the heart to remain open when it would most like to close

Pratyahara (5th limb of yoga) is at the root of obtaining equanimity and well being.  It is a practice that ‘clears the palate of the senses’ and leads us to discover our true Self. It is the nature of the senses to see, hear, taste, touch, and for the mind to think, and the heart to feel, these are not problems.  Tensions arise when we become fully defined by these sights, sounds, thoughts and emotions, and we begin to feel that this is all we are.
Join Susan on a nourishing journey through the organs of the senses and perception.  Through gentle movement, meditation and inquiry we will systematically release tensions in the body, tensions in the mind, and tensions in the heart to enhance our inherent well being.
$18 per class.

CHANTING with Jennifer Walker
6:30 - 8:30 pm
~
Oct 17 & Nov 21

Throughout history chanting has been used to celebrate our relationship to ourselves, to others, our environment and our source. Chanting also refines our ability to listen, encouraging the mind to become more alert, open and able to shift focus. In this class we will explore combining chanting with gentle movement as well as breathing exercises to enrich our experience of using sound to integrate body, mind, heart and breath. Let your participation in chanting help to release the tensions of the week and ease your way into the weekend.
