Maraha Dickens

When Maraha isn’t teaching yoga, one of her
favorite things to do is to travel. She loves the way that
travel opens her eyes and changes her perspective, and she
loves the connections she creates with the people she meets
along the way. Back home in Seattle, she finds many of the
same rewards as a yoga teacher, which she says “combines the
art of movement with human connection.” For Maraha, yoga
allows a similar opportunity to see oneself and the world
freshly, and forge new connections with once-distant parts
of yourself. Maraha’s love of yoga and her love of travel
found a perfect match in her own teacher, world-renowned
Dona Holleman. In 2010, Maraha will complete a three-year
international teacher training with Holleman, an experience
which has given her the opportunity to visit Italy seven
times, but which, more importantly, has brought her home to
her practice and herself.
Maraha’s classes are challenging and balanced, working into
deep poses with precision and appreciation for the body’s
own inherent truth. She is skilled at adapting her teaching
to suit all levels of students, and her own joy in the
practice is infectious. She brings life and warmth to the
smallest details of alignment. Ultimately, she invites her
students to explore the connection between their mind’s
intention and their body’s wisdom, and find the union where
these two meet and expand each other.
“The Yoga Tree is a great place to work because it provides
unique and talented teachers. The students who come the
studio are open-minded, friendly and have a willingness to
learn. The Yoga Tree also allows teachers the freedom to
explore and build their teaching in a safe and nurturing
way.” -- Maraha
